The Batcave was a club in North London in the 70’s and 80’s. A gathering place for misfit musicians and the leftfield. Many credit the venue as the birthplace of the goth culture movement. It was known for its unique blend of music genres, including gothic rock, post-punk, new wave, and electronic music.
When we heard Demon Music were putting together an LP collection dedicated to Batcave, we couldn’t wait to get our teeth sunk into the project. This monster 63-track collection captures the freedom of Batcave in all its anti, dark, and messy glory. Tracks in the set contain the sounds that mattered, from The Cure to Joy Division, The Sisters Of Mercy to Sparks. Curated to immerse the listener in the sounds of the dancefloor, we were tasked in creating a visual identity that strings together the tracks, the club, and the movement — a story that’s told in detail in the included 80-page hardback written by the founders of Batcave.
We knew we needed to pay homage to an important cultural landmark and a distinct sound & style. Batcave was a venue not just for innovative music but creativity, freedom, and individualism. Our designs reflect this. Once you dive beyond the gothic look we all know, you’ll find a passion for music, camaraderie between people, and the spark behind a movement.
