For the first time, the soundtracks to every John Hughes movie would be compiled in one rebellious collection. We needed to create an identity that themed Hughes’ films together in a way that reflected the rebellious upbeat attitudes of his stories and soundtracks.
In the process of working with Hughes’ music supervisor Tarquin Gotch, we stumbled across the actual mixtapes that John Hughes made to explore the stories of his worlds. He often created these soundtrack mixtapes before he’d even pitched the movie... that’s how fundamental music was to his process.
ACTUAL MIXTAPES
The compilation comes in 3 formats: 5CD Deluxe Boxset, 6LP Box Set and a 2LP. We based our designs for each format around Hughes’ actual mixtapes, featuring songs for some of the most memorable scenes in coming-of-age 80s cinema.
When you hear those songs, you see the scenes from each movie. They take you right back to the first time you saw them. That’s what’s special about these movies and their music. This music is a small part of John Hughes’ legacy, a special gift from him to us all… a gift that keeps on giving and we feel privileged to be a part of his celebration.
